Immunization Requirement for 2017-2018

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS FOR 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR

Attention Parent/Guardian(s) of current 6th grade and 11th grade students:
Per State of Iowa law, all students entering 7th grade must provide proof of immunization with a Tdap vaccine.  As of January 2013, the law requires a Tdap booster for entry into 7th grade.  The law states that a “one-time dose of tetanus/diphtheria/acellular pertussis containing vaccine (Tdap) for applicants in grades 7 and above, if born on or after September 15, 2000; regardless of the interval since the last tetanus/diphtheria containing vaccine” must be administered.  Please provide documentation to the school once the immunization has been administered.

The State of Iowa has also passed into law a new vaccine requirement that will affect incoming 7th graders.  For the 2017-2018 school year, and all future school years, all students entering, advancing or transferring into 7th grade and born after September 15, 2004, will need proof of one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY).  By law, there is no grace/extension period for the implementation of this requirement. All 7th grade students born after September 15, 2004, will need to submit a completed Certificate of Immunization with the meningococcal conjugate vaccination (MenACWY) before the first day of school.  Per the law, any student entering 7th grade that does not provide proof of receiving the meningococcal vaccine will not be allowed to attend school until proof is provided.

The State of Iowa has also passed a new vaccine requirement into law for incoming 12th grade students.  For the 2017-2018 school year and all future school years, all students entering, advancing, or transferring into 12th grade and born after September 15, 1999, will need proof of two doses of meningococcal (A, C W, Y) vaccine; or 1 dose if received when the student was 16 years of age or older.  A Certificate of Immunization that includes the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) must be submitted before the first day of school.
If parent/guardian(s) have questions about these state-mandated requirements, please feel free to contact the school and speak with Nurse Heather or Mr. Briggs.  Thank you!
